The Portable Antiquities Scheme

A silver seal matrix. The form and engraving suggest a 16th-17th century date. Only the oval printing face survives, the suspension loop having been broken off above fluted base. The die is deeply engraved with unidentified arms, comprising a shield with a chevron and six ?pellets above and three below. Above the shield are the letters 'IS'. The perimeter is marked by a ropework border.It measures 12.5mm high, 10.5mm wide and weighs 3.1g.
