POST MEDIEVAL VESSEL

Two fragments of a Post Medieval copper alloy chaffing dish support, dating late 16th-early 17th century. The fragments appear to be from the same object. One fragment is from the end that attached to the vessel, being sub-rectangular, rapering towards the break. There is an iron rivet still in situ. The other fragment is decorated with a figural engraving which appears to represent a face. The curvy shape of the terminal forms the outline of the head. with details engraved on either side. Both fragments have a mid-light green pattination and there is dark brown-red discolouration around the hings and below the terminal.A similar object was recorded on the PAS database (ESS-44DA30) and appears in better condition and more complete.Dimensions:Terminus: length: 34.53 mm; width: 6.62 mm; thickness: 4.53 mm; weight: 3.49g.Hinge: length: 31.54 mm; width: 13.30 mm; thickness: 3.16 mm; weight: 5.69g.Total weight: 9.18g.
