MEDIEVAL MOUNT

Fragment of a cast copper alloy mount or fitting, probably of Medieval to Post Medieval date. The mount is rectangular, slightly offset at a 10 degree angle at one end. It is rectangular in cross section. Both ends of the mount have worn breaks. One of these breaks cuts across an incomplete integrally cast copper alloy rivet or lug. The upper surface has the letters 'TC' engraved, to the left of the break, thus it is possible that this is only the end of the engraving. The metal has an even, mid-green patina, and has little wear except for on the two breaks.
