MEDIEVAL FINGER RING

Cast copper alloy seal ring. Dates to the 14th-15th centuries. The hoop is fairly large and would have been worn on the thumb by a merchant. The bezel is oval with voided engraving depicting a crowned 'T'. The motif served the purpose of preventing fraud and may have represented the owner's surname. These rings replaced the seal matrices (Mills 2003 page 47).
