A corroded fragment from a cast copper-alloy Post Medieval 'locking buckle', c. 16th century AD. Part of the U-shaped arm remains which also serves as the pin bar. The separate pin-chape survives in its entirety. The latter is formed of a cast rectangular element of teardrop shaped cross-section, pierced all the way through for the pin bar, with an integral protruding and tapering triangular pin. The curved locking arm has a lozengiform cross-section. Such buckles are well attested in the literature; recent published examples can be found illustrated in Egan (2005, pp 37-38, nos. 116, 117), which includes a reconstruction drawing. This fragment is corroded, with a white and light-green corrosion product over a mid green patina.
