The Portable Antiquities Scheme

Incomplete medieval gilt buckle with integral plate, frame and adjacent part of plate missing. The break cuts across one rivet hole and there is a second in the centre of a flat sub-square panel next to a terminal hook or scroll. The panel is decorated with four oblique notches and rocker-arm engraving. A median groove runs from the break as far as a set of five very fine transversely engraved lines next to the panel. For use with a spur. Length >32mm. Width at break 6mm. 13th – 14th century.
