Oval uniface portrait medallion with legend: '"MAVRITIVS.AVR.PRINC.COM.NASS.ET.MV.MAR.VE.FL.EQ.OR.PE RISCELIDIS." 1615. Maurice, Prince of Orange, Count of Nassau and Meurs, Marquess of Vere and Flushing, Knight of the Order of the Garter, 1615." Possibly cast by the 17th century. German Medallist Christian Maler. (V & A Mus., London) Note: In 1601-2, George Yeardley, future owner of Flowerdew Hundred, fought under Maurice, Prince of Orange in the Netherlands against the Spanish. Two medallions are in the British Museum, one of silver and one of brass'. They project less than 1mm from the reverse. 53 x 42mm. Maximum thickness 2.3mm, however the surface is rather abraded.
