EARLY MEDIEVAL BRIDLE FITTING

Part of a Late Saxon bridle cheek piece with an inward-facing Ringerike-style animal moulded with two round apertures and enhanced by engraving and a punched ring-and-dot eye. The break is across the aperture for the bit. The surviving portion measures 46.5mm x 30mm with a thickness of 3.5mm. It may be ascribed to Williams 2007 Type 1 and dates from the 11th century.
