Distorted fragment of a medieval copper alloy mount of uncertain shape, possibly lozengiform, almost all the edges with recent breaks. A sheet is elaborately decorated in engraving with a design of curving lines and a (possibly central) lozenge with concave sides reserved on a ground of oblique lines. One convex-headed rivet is attached to a circular rove near one possible corner. Four globular-head rivets are decorative and there are parts of two other rivets on the edges. If the object was lozengiform there would have been a total of nine rivets. More than 36mm x more than 23mm. Thickness of sheet 1mm. Gap between reverse and rove 1.8mm. The globular-headed rivets stand proud of the surface by 5mm. No good parallel noted. Perhaps Late 12th - early 13th century.
