POST MEDIEVAL BODKIN

A complete post-medieval silver bodkin with two openings, one circular, the other longitudinal. At each end of the longitudinal opening there is an area of cross-hatched engraving, additional engraving of alternate diagonal lines and dots edge the opening. On the other side of the bodkin is the same engraving but with the addition of the initials MW next to the smaller opening and a star at the opposite end of the longitudinal opening. It has an oval finial.There are numerous other examples of this type of object from the East Anglian region. For example, Hessett area, Suffolk (2004 T192) (Treasure Annual Report 2004, p123, no 251) and Eye area, Suffolk (2004 T381) (Treasure Annual Report 2004, p122, no 250).
