POST MEDIEVAL FOB

A probable watch chain fob which is a ring of copper alloy containing an engraved piece of glass. The fob is 19.2mm diameter and 4.8mm thick. The ring has a shallow incised line around the middle but is otherwise undecorated. The copper alloy has a dark green patina. The glass is cracked and there are two small holes near the centre, where some glass appears to be missing. The glass is transparent, suggesting a relatively recent date. The engraving is mainly obscured by the damage, but two small quadrupeds are visible, perhaps horses, and possibly the outline of a carriage with a coach man sitting above. Only the head of the coach man is visible. The fob is most likely to date from the eighteenth or nineteenth century.
