A fragment of a copper alloy medieval buckle (AD c.1350-c.1450), missing its frame, pin and over half its plate. All that remains is the decorated front part of the plate. Overall, the fragment measures 57.3mm long, 19.2mm wide and 1.5mm thick. It weighs 4.97g. The plate is rectangular and has two rivet holes at the attachment end, one in each corner. The frame end is broken but the edge of the hole for the pin is still visible. The front of the plate is decorated with an incised picture, possibly representing a mythological beast or a landscape. Above and below this is a single line border. An almost identical buckle plate can be seen in Whitehead (1996, p. 21, no. 76).
