Impressed design on front of case depicts in the centre a swan on a grassy mound with greater reed mace behind.

Half length portrait of a seated young man, facing slightly to his left, clean shaven. His left arm rests on a cloth-covered table. He wears a dark jacket, dark high waistcoat, white shirt and white cravat. Hand coloured. The case hinges along the short, top edge.

The registration card suggests the photographer is Elliott and Fry but this is unlikely as the firm was only set up in 1863.

A red velvet covered toiletry box with decorative gold tooling and grooves with an engraved silver gilt plaque inset into the top. Hidden inside the box lid behind a white padded velvet cover and set into red velvet is a three quarter length, daguerreotype portrait of a man looking to the viewer's left. The man is George Dolland Junior Esq 1853. He holds a velvet top hat, gloves and gold tipped cane. He wears a black jacket and black waistcoat and white shirt, he has a loosely tied blue bow tie and a white handkerchief in his left hand pocket, he wears a gold signet ring on little finger of his right hand.
