Half-length portrait of a man seated on an ornate carved 'Gothic' chair, his body turned to his left, looking at the camera. He has white hair and sideburns. His hands rest in his lap, There is a ring on the ring finger of his right hand. He wears a dark jacket, dark plain waistcoat and dark tied cravat, white shirt, paler trousers.

Lower half only of case, breaking apart and glass loose within it. Fragile. There is a complex design based on an oval on the reverse of the case, of which the leather is stained and worn.
