Around 1504/05 Dürer designed the woodcut “Saint George on Horse.” The artist dynamically focuses on the legend of the emergency helper who rescues the dragon who has been the victim of extinct king’s daughter as a way of appeasing a disaster. In parallel, Saint George rides on his mold the attack on the untame already lying on the ground. Bones and a skull bring the past sacrifices into the leaf. With a fixed stroke, he rams his lance vertically into the mouth of the winged being, which winds threatening in combat. In the background, the viewers take a look at the princess, who fearfully evokes behind a rock. Heller describes the woodcut in his Dürer publication of 1827 as “very pretty cut and rare” (Heller Dürer 1827 II.666,1832).
