Interior landscape view of the opening of Crystal Palace, Sydenham. In the foreground the audience faces a raised dais on which the royal party stands, on an ornate carpet. Queen Victoria, in a pale flounced dress and white lacy bonnet stands next to Prince Albert at the centre front of their group. A military figure with feathered head-gear stands on the steps of the dais, facing them. Behind, a large choral group, male and female, rises up in front of an elaborate baldachin canopy. The structure of the Crystal Palace is seen in the girders and windows beyond this, and the balcony to the right of the image. A marble bust is seen on the right side below the balcony.
