She wears a white lace cap decorated with pink roses, green leaves and smaller pink flowers. Her silk dress is mid-toned, with turned-back decorative cuffs; she also has a double lace collar and lace cuffs. A black lace strip/ribbon around her neck is held with a brooch at the collar. Her dark hair is straight, held with two dark bands, and hangs in loops over her ears. Her other jewellery includes a long gold chain hanging from her neck, and a gold ring on the third finger of her left hand, which holds an open notebook with gilt page edges, with hand-written entries (probably an account-book). Note that painted glass cover is painted in gold and black lines on a white background. Also the metal case in which the daguerreotype is housed, is made of flat oval grey metal, with a lid that slides off, dimensions 165 x 132 x 11mm.
