Portrait format case. Hinge opens downwards. Tray approximately twice as deep as cover. Mat is decorated with a sunburst pattern. The metal preserver is of an unusual form; a sheet of dull metal behind the daguerreotype and cut a little larger than the glass has been bent up around the plate and glass to grip the sides of the glass. A hard, grey metal has been used.
