The case is in book-form, with an overlapping flap which folds over from the right side. A metal tongue slips into a receiving slot on the front to close it.

She wears a pale, broad-brimmed hat with an ostrich feather above the crown. She wears a shawl that is plain and dark around the shoulders, and has a striped and fringed border. Her dress below is full, white and lacy.

Note that painted glass cover is painted in gold and black lines on a white background. Also the metal case in which the daguerreotype is housed, is made of flat oval grey metal, with a lid that slides off, dimensions 165 x 132 x 11mm.
