An interesting study of a traditional regional costume. Possibly also originally taken as an 'ethnographic' study.

Three quarter length portrait of a seated man, facing the camera. His left arm is resting on a cloth-covered table. He wears a dark jacket, dark waistcoat with chain, white shirt, dark cravat, paler trousers. He has a beard covering the lower part of the jaw.. A plain wooden chair back is just visible. The case is ornate, embossed on both front and back is an urn containing fruit and flowers surrounded by strapwork, scrolling foliate decoration and gilt border. The velvet cushion is decoratively impressed; a central floral motif with scrolling foliate and floral border.
