Rome, West side of the Coliseum as seen from Palace of the Caesars near the Arch of Titus'

Daguerrian Jewellery: 1916-84_2 - Gold locket cover containing a portrait of a man set into the tray (bottom of the locket). On the backing is engraved pattern work feature cloud and line work with an engraved 'leaf and dot' design going round the tray edges. There is a gold ring attached to the tray for hanging the locket from a chain. There is another daguerreotype image of a woman in the cover it is under 1916-84_1.

The case has deeply-embossed decoration on front and back, consisting of a central roundel of roses and leaves (not rose leaves), foliate decoration in the quarters around it and a linear border. A separate black strip of paper edges these decorative panels.

Lower half only of case, breaking apart and glass loose within it. Fragile. There is a complex design based on an oval on the reverse of the case, of which the leather is stained and worn.
