Mezzotint on paper of the Madonna and Child with John the Baptist, engraved and published by John Smith (1652-1743) in London in 1704. It is a copy of a painting by Federico Barocci (c.1535-1612), current whereabouts unknown. The lettering includes a quote from Isaiah 60.3, ‘Ambulabunt gentes in lumine tuo, et reges in splendore ortûs tui’ (Nations will walk in your light, and kings in the brightness of your rising).
