A copper alloy Late Iron Age or Roman terret of uncertain type dating to the period c. 200 BC - AD 100. The terret consists of a circular frame which is D-shaped in cross section, being flat on the reverse. The frame features three moulded ovular knops, each incised by two curved grooves to create an eye shape. Each section of the frame between the knops contains curved fields of punched decoration which create a stippled effect. The terret has an uneven dark green patination with patches of brown. This partially obscures some of the decoration.Miniature terrets with flattened reverses are relatively common, however, this example is larger than usual for such an object.The terret measures 35.27mm in diameter (internal diameter 20.79mm), is 9.04mm thick and weighs 28.16g.
