POST MEDIEVAL TOY

An incomplete cast copper alloy toy miniature cannon of late post-medieval date. The toy is comprised of a circular barrel, or cascable, which tapers in diameter from the cascable to the muzzle. The cascable end is slightly fluted with a raised rim and two trunnions or basal lugs for attachment to a block or stock project midway along the barrel. The muzzle is also fluted with a raised circumferential collar.The metal has a mid brassy brown patina and is worn. The cannon is 97.5mm long, 15.9mm in diameter and weighs 62g.Numerous similar, though smaller, examples can be seen on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database including: Unique ID: SWYOR-E21697, IOW-9F60A7, LANCUM-EC68C8 and YORYM-6A5AA5.
