A near complete lead-alloy pilgrim's Ampulla, dating from the later Medieval period. Dated c.1300-1500.The vessel is the classic miniature phial shape with a circular body which extends upwards into a slightly flared neck. Projecting from either side of the Ampulla at the junction between the neck and the body, there were originally two triangular lug handles, one is complete but bent and only the handle stubs of the other survive. At least one face of the Ampulla is decorated with a raised design but this is now very worn and illegible. Based on such a simple design it is not possible to assign this pilgrim souvenir to a specific shrine or saint.
