The Portable Antiquities Scheme

A complete cast lead miniature axe head of probable Roman date. The axe head is wedge shaped with a square sectioned neck which narrows in height and flares out in width to the blade. A small hole running parallel to the blade edge is present through the neck. The blade is rounded and worn. The axe head is most probably votive in nature.The metal is a light brownish-white colour and is worn. The axe head is 29.9mm long, 16.2mm wide, 5mm thick and weighs 8.6g.
