The artist made a mutual copy of Dürer’s engraving “Christ on the Cross” in 1508. Like the template, the cross with the lifeless Savior rises slightly from the central axis. While Johannes gramerWährend lifts the folded hands to his right, a small group of grieving women is gathering on his left. One of them holds Mary, who in the foreground fainted to the ground by her pain. Although mirrored, dating and monogram point to Dürer as the spiritual creator of the image idea, among them are the year of origin and monogram of the actual artist.
