Unknown artist
In 1519 the artist copied Dürer’s copper engraving “Maria, das Kind still” from the opposite side. As in the original, the breastfeeding Mother of God and the boy of Jesus almost completely capture the picture. She lovingly lowered her view to the child. Her noble robe, veil and hair band contrast with the lawn bench and the unadorned natural environment. The figures themselves are accentuated by bright nimbs. While dating and monogram refer to Dürer as the spiritual creator of the image idea, there is no indication of the actual artist and the time of creation.
