The Sun of Justice

The artist copied Dürer’s engraving, “The Sun of Justice (Sol Jusitiae),” made around 1499, which was not always discussed by researchers as majestas because of its refined and in this form traditionless image idea. He translated him into the technique of etching. Behind the title is “Christ as Sun God and World Judge” (cf. Schoch I.79.23). As in the template, the young man is accentuated by a swarming robe and a double beam nimbus and staged in foliate. With his legs crossed, he sits on a lion, and in doing so he evokes the sword in his left hand, while taunting the balance of justice in his right hand. There are no integrated references to the actual artist and the time of creation.
