Two men’s heads

The artist erased two men’s heads, which, without any background design, give the appearance of drawing studies: a man with a hat in a three-quarter profile on the left, a bearded age on the right (see template in Paris, Fondation Custodia, Inv.-Nr. 5989), which is shown head-on, with his view moving to the second depicted. Below, on the left, the monogram is reminiscent of Dürer as a spiritual creator of the image idea, while on the right the actual artist and the time of creation are integrated into the representation by a lettering. Heller included the work under the heading “After Dürer 's Paintings and Drawings” in his Dürer publication of 1827 (cf. Heller Dürer 1827 II.918,2530).
