On July 7, 2026, a painting  by Don Bergland  was auctioned at Cowley Abbot  (Canada’s Art Auctioneers)  i n Toronto, Canada.  This painting,  called  Prairie Field  ( #573 ) was created  on August 8, 1986   while Bergland was completing his Masters degree in art education at the University of British Columbia  (UBC) . In 1985, he had moved his studio from Qualicum Bay on Vancouver Island to  pursue  graduate studies at UBC  in Vancouver .  While working on his  academic studies, he set up a studio in the basement of the Neville Scarfe building (Faculty of Education)  to work on a solo exhibition scheduled with Gold Design Fine Arts in Calgary, Alberta.  This was one of Bergland’s last major exhibitions using the Exile style of landscape painting.  This painting  first appeared in a  solo  exhibition held at Gold Design Fine Arts in Calgary on  October 4, 1986.
