Schaustellung Christi (Ecce homo)

The work is a mutual copy of a woodcut of the “Schaustelle Christi (Ecce Homo),” which was ascribed to Dürer until the middle of the 19th century. As in the essay, which, unlike the copy, is dated “1521,” this pilate shows the gunned after the mocking to the Jewish people. Christ is facing the observer with his hands tied in front of the body, standing between the governor and a miniature, with scourge tools. He wears the crown of thorns and the mocking coat. In the memorial for submission, the monogram Dürer is integrated into the representation. Heller writes in 1827 that deductions with the heading “Sehet, welsh ein Menschen” also existed (Heller Dürer 1827 II.612,1627).
