Emperor Maximilian and Ludwig of Bavaria

The woodcut shows Emperor Maximilian with the signals of domination, crown and scepter, and Duke Ludwig of Bavaria. Between the two, a man kneels on the ground to present the emperor with a book that Duke Ludwig, as a donor, still holds on a corner. In front of the kneeling is a coat of arms with horse head. The two rulers are also marked by inscriptions and their coat of arms, which are attached to the pillars on the left and right, bearing the architecturally richly decorated arc. The donation view of a decorative frame on black background is included. The woodcut was used several times in 1515 as a book illustration. Heller included the sheet under the heading “Doubtful Leaves” in his 1827 published Dürer publication and integrated the reference: “Is by no means Dürer” (Heller Dürer 1827 II.793.2090).
