Unknown artist
The artist made a portrait of Emperor Charles V as a knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece. He shows him as a chest with dark background. Easily turned aside, the Collane of the Order around his neck, he looks seriously at the viewer. Whilst the name string below refers to the stecher of the view, the reference to the template, “Gemahlt von Albrecht Dürer,” is supplemented by a question mark in print. Heller nevertheless included the sheet under the heading “Hnach Dürer’s paintings and drawings made leaves” in his 1827 published Dürer publication and referred to Dürer’s portrait of the Emperor between 1511 and 1513. (Cf. Heller Dürer 1827 II.896,2471)
