First carried by war enthusiasm (subtitle: artist’s leaves for the war 1914/1916, changed to 1914/17, etc.), it became a support project for the artists in view of the increasingly difficult economic situation of artists during the First World War and the hunger and inflation period. Unlike the satirical “Simplicissimus” (1896-1944), it was rather affirmative. The small booklets were published by the Berlin Zirkel-publishing house and included no more than eight pages per issue, mostly with full-page illustrations and short texts, including poems. The price of the notebooks was 20 Pfennige in 1914, 30 Pfennige in 1918 and appeared weekly. Otto Dorn was the author, among others with the names of the following employees was advertised on the back: Hans Baluschek, Emil Döpler, Magnus Zeller, Heinrich Zille.<br /;> <br /;> Old stock of the Märkisches Museum. <br /;> <br /;> Reproduced in the drawing re.
