Goebeler, Elise: Portrait of an Unknown Lady

Chest image of a young woman to the semi-left. Strongly drunk, but still the high pointed collar, as the only jewelry of the otherwise dark clothing against a dark background, recognizable. From the dark, the unbeautified young face looks out with a light double chin, unadorned. A personal relationship with the depicted is possible, probably an earlier work that could still belong to her study period. This is all the more striking because it has otherwise become known for sometimes fake children’s portraits and fairytale paintings. Elise Goebeler (also Göbeler) (1847-1913) came from (Bad) Freienwalde/Oder and had settled with a private studio in Berlin from 1906 after she was trained in Berlin and Munich.<br /;> <br /;> Acquired for the Märkische Museum.<br /;> <br /;> Designated li.
