The drawing is part of a larger collection of drawings and sketches made by Gertrud Nilsson. The motifs are taken from Italy and Norrland, among others. Gertrud Nilsson Man. Grandfather Per Forssman was a spice trader in Uppsala. Gertrud Nilsson’s maternal grandfather was a parish priest in Skuttunge. Gertrud Nilsson served as a teacher in Stockholm and spent the summers in Jämtland where she learned from the Sami to tie root baskets in the summer of 1928. The sketchbook and its drawings was included in the collection of root works donated to the Upplandsmuseet by IM in Lund in 1971.
