
Kitao Shigemasa
Colour woodblock print, Kikujidō by Kitao Shigemasa, printed in Japan between 1772 and 1781. Hashira-e (pillar print) format, nishiki-e print. The story of the 'Chrysanthemum boy' or Kikujidō is a Nō play loosely based on a Chinese legend. In the story, dew from the leaves of chrysanthemums is revealed to be an elixir for longevity.
