It's Maple Sugar Time. When the sap buckets decorate the maple trees and the farmers start fires under maple sap evaporators, it's a sure sign of spring in northern New England. Here's a scene now common in the area. C. W. Kenyon of this town is shown collecting the sap from the maple trees along the stone wall in front of his farm. The large tree in the foreground is about 120 years old and gives enough sap each year to make about five gallons of maple syrup. Much of this year's maple syrup will be used in cooking as a substitute for sugar.
