Wife testifies at husband's trial

Mrs. marie shaffer, 23, twice married and mother of four children, is shown sobbing in arms of her impassive father after testifying at trial of her husband, john shaffer, railroad brakeman. shaffer went on trial for his life today in criminal court for the slaying last nov. 10 of his 5-year-old step-daughter, lettie joyce weir. mrs. shaffer told the court how her husband beat and tortured her daughter, resulting in the death of the child.
