Women shot to death

Chicago, Ill. -- Four men, including the husband of the dead women, faced lie tests as police sought to find out how a 31-year-old "blue baby" mother was shot and killed. The victim, Mrs. Alice Wierz, was shot in the home of her sister in Chicago. The shooting first was reported as an accidental fall. The men to undergo lie tests are the husband, Anthony, 38; the brother-in-law, Herman Goett; and two roomers at the Goett house, John Mazarkas, 34, and Robert Steinmetz, 20. Goett called police and said Mrs. Wierz had been injured in a fall, but police later found the bullet wound in the women's head and Goett then admitted he had found her on the floor with one of his six guns beside her. He said he made up the fall story to avoid the scandal of a suicide. Police said Mrs. Wierz's skull had been fractured in two places besides the bullet wound.
