The view, drawn from nature, but In reverse as printed, from the hill over Farringford in the Isle of Wight, looking across the Solent, towards Hurst Castle and the New Forest. Golden Hill Fort, with smoke rising from a gun, is on the near shore. On the right is the Totland Bay Hotel. Part of the distant shore, to the left of Hurst Castle, lies in deep shadow under a passing shower, which was only slightly suggested in the previous state; the right hand portion of the cloud Is new. Smoke from the discharge of a gun at Golden Hill Fort is much extended The sky at the top is partly cross-hatched.
