When the Blizzard of '88 Hit New York--This was how Broadway and 31st Street in New York's Manhattan looked during the blizzard of March 12, 1888. The storm, driving in from the northwest desolated the northeastern coast of the United States, suspending communication between New York, Philadelphia and Boston and caused at least 400 deaths. A group, known as the "Blizzard Men and Ladies of 1888," still commemorates the storm. It now has about 250 men and women, ranging in ages from 76 to 96.
