Soldier held in child attacks

Little eight-year-old Eileen Flanagan points to Pvt. Elmer D. Register,19, stationed at Fort Dix, N.J., (with head bowed) at a hearing today as the youth who attacked her with a heavy key chain and a penknife, inflicting a wound that took six stitches to close. Register, police said, later confessed slashing seven-year old Debbie Pederson, a little white girl, back in December, so badly that 100 stitches were needed to close the wound. Police said he also admitted slashing or molesting eight other children.
