Wilmington, N.C... Pictured above is Mrs. Jane Thompson, with whom Raymond Fernandez, confessed "lonely hearts" killer took a trip to Spain in late 1947. He returned alone, reporting that she had been killed in a train accident and buried abroad. To Michigan police, though, Fernandez said that she died of a heart attack. Fernandez met Mrs. Thompson when he rented a room in the Thompson apartment at 565 west 139th street, New York, where she lived with her infirm mother, Mrs. Pearl Wilson. This was in September, 1947. Shortly thereafter they left on the trip to Spain, a trip from which Mrs. Thompson failed to return.
