Wartime Logging. Westwood, Calif. -- High-pressure war production forces loggers to work through the winter in spite of heavy snows in the pine region of the High Sierras. Even in California, at altitudes of 5,000 feet and upward, snows come deep. A march storm dumped our feet of new snow on Camp Bunyan, where these photos were taken, 40 miles north of here. Here conductor Clyde Fischer highballs a log train at Camp Bunyan for the 40 mile run to Westwood. The mill eats up more than 100 carloads of logs each day.
