Woman power gets a boost from Miss Candace Martin of Jamaica Plain, the first of her sex to join Local 4E of the International Union of Operating Engineers, AFL-CIO. A field or "eyeball" engineer for the Gilbane Building Co. on the construction site of the 60-story home office building of John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Co., Candy takes a reading on a level for Walter Ryan (right), business manager of Local 4 of the union. Watching the new union member is Candy's boss and father, Dick Martin, a Gilbane vice president and project manager for the John Hancock Tower. Her button is a symbol of Women's Liberation Movement.
