War Experience Helps Create New Business. Philip Phillips, a portrait artist, and Fred Rathmann, a draughtsman, left to right, served together with an army modelmaking detachment during the war, as did four other members of their new firm in Chicago called Topmodel. During the war the veterans fashioned miniature replicas of beaches and harbors of battle areas for the guidance of bombers and invasion forces. Now they produce three-dimensional topographical maps for airlines and railroads, scaled models for architects and engineers.
