Even if you still have gas, when the rubber shoes on your auto give out there just isn't any more. But our four-footed equine friends still can be fitted in iron-clad comfort minus the perils of priority. Until we entered the war, horse shoes mainly were thrown around pegs to make ringers or hungover doorways for good luck. Used for racing and riding the horse was a luxury except on the farm. Now mils and bakery wagons, and many other business vehicles, are horse-drawn. And this is only the beginning. Horse-shoe manufacturing, long dormant, springs to the fore. Oldsters, who almost had forgotten the trade, are being called back to make the shoes. Youngsters are learning the trade. In this photo we wee a length of bar being measured for horse-shoe size.
