Alone, on a road in open country and in the shadows of nightfall, an old man stands and is seen in profile and turned to the right. Under his soft hat, his eyes are vague and he is lost in thought. He has a hooked nose and bushy beard. A long buttoned coat falls below his knees and he holds onto a cane with both hands.
